Thoughts on Lyrics

I have always found writing the music for songs a lot easier than the lyrics. In the past I have had periods when the words have come quite easily. However, in recent times, the biggest problem has been that my head has been, and continues to be, filled with the events of losing mum in particular. This is not just specific to writing lyrics, but it makes coming up with new ideas difficult for me as I keep coming back to the same place.

So I have started to try something a little different for me, and that is to make notes of words and phrases that pop into my head. I am confident that I will come up with something and I know there is no point in forcing it. 

More Chords for The Cancer Collective Music Project

I have been playing around with a different chord structure in this new video, which might well work with the chords used in the previous post. I will at some point soon get the electric guitar out as I always like to hear chord progressions played with both acoustic and electric guitars as sometimes new ideas will spring from doing that. I am also trying to think about lyrics, but they will come when they are ready... And yes I really must tune the guitar!

My Musical Fundraising Project For Cancer

It's been some years since I got my musical creative juices flowing. No excuses really, but life has just got in the way. I've recently got my guitar out started playing around with a few ideas, as well as thinking about writing some lyrics. I think it was meeting Steve 'Smiley' Barnard from The Alarm recently that gave me that final bit of impetus that was needed.

At this very early stage I am not entirely sure where I will go with this. My thoughts are as ever towards fundraising. I like the idea of recording 1-3 songs to be released as a fundraising venture. My books raise funds for the Beating Bowel Cancer charity. For this I am possibly thinking about supporting the Love Hope Strength cancer charity, which I will expand upon in later blogs once the decision is made. I'd love to get a few famous musicians on board. Not only to help raise the profile of the venture, but to gloss over my average musicianship skills! There is no guarantee that this idea will come to fruition, but by blogging and putting it out there hopefully it will. There is no timescale, as there is no point in putting any pressure on myself, but let's see where this goes...

So some of you may have seen this video already on social media, and it is just an early idea I have of a chord progression. I'll be updating the blog as ideas come and go.
